Hellhound Ranks
The hierarchy for the Hellhounds is extremely strict and unforgiving—step out of line and you’ll be slapped down in an instant. Each of the Hellhounds so loves their power over all who are underneath them that they are extremely volatile and loath to let any of their inferiors step out of line—unless it is something that will benefit them. Conniving and manipulative, the Hellhounds giggle at bloodshed and fights and put each other down constantly to gain points in a game that no one outside of them would understand—reputation.
Daracha – the Daracha is the highest rank in the Hellhounds, second only to Aris herself. Usually a female due to Aris’s profound belief in the natural viciousness of females, the Daracha’s word is law just as Aris’s is—and woe betide anyone who tries to thwart or disobey it. The Daracha has traditionally killed the rebellious souls who dared to challenge them for dominance, and in horrible, slow, agonizing ways, at that. Darachas address each and every member of the Hellhounds first by their rank, and if they are high enough in status to warrant it, then by their name—reminding them that whoever they consider themselves to be is always secondary to their place in the Hellhounds.
Rihait – the Daracha’s second-in-command, the Rihait has proven themselves endlessly loyal to both Aris’s and the Daracha’s plans—none other will do, for if the Daracha did not choose someone endlessly loyal, they might be at risk for insurrection. “Rihait” means “judge” in the Hellhounds’ demonic language—all who are too afraid to go to Aris, but too unholy to go to the Servants, come to the Rihait for an appraisal of their disputes and decisions. In the event that a Daracha is killed or incapacitated in some way, the Rihait will become the Daracha.
Yazha – meaning “hunter”, this group is exactly that; Yazha hunt down Servants and rip them to shreds should they not subvert themselves. Elite warriors, the Yazha have forced Amora’s Servants to create and train their own elite warriors, the Lliso. Yazha, for all their importance, are held in relatively low esteem, as they are considered the “brute force” of Aris’s Dark Will.
Sassun – the marksmen to the Yazha’s brute strength, Sassun are the “diplomats” of the Hellhounds—they talk sweet to the Servants, negotiating truces that will allow either the Hellhounds to recoup or to attack while not under suspicion. Along the years, however, the Servants have become both weary and wary of this practice, and no longer give any Sassun much notice, since every deal with them has ended in betrayal.
Beluz – Beluz are the rank that was created expressly to break Duze in so that their wills would be shattered and unable to resist Aris’s Dark Will. Just as there is nothing that can’t be done to the Duze, there is nothing that the Beluz won’t do, as long as it accomplishes their ends.
Duze – the literal meaning of the name is “dirty”, and this is where all Servants-turned-Hellhounds start; their souls dirtied, they are the slaves of whoever subverted them and bound to them literally forever. There is nothing that can’t be done to a Duze—they are the lowest of the low.
Servant Ranks
The Servants are usually quite good-hearted, being created by or used to being in the presence of the sweet Amora Ne Elazha Lelethe, making the rankings quite a bit less strict than those of the Hellhounds. While the Servants may be arrogant, prideful, and secretive, they are not under any circumstances power-hungry or egotistical—they do consider others, even if it is only occasionally, and never simply to arrange them for their own plans.
All Servants shine brilliantly with Amora’s Holy Light—a light that can only be seen by those either pure-hearted or wanting after redemption, marking the Servants for who—and what—they are. Some of the Servants have been blessed by Amora with wings as well, giant feathery things, whereas Aris, loathing everything to do with the sky, forbids wings on her Hellhounds.
Taliel – the Taliel is the highest rank in the Servants, second only to Amora, and usually stays secreted away in the Inner Sanctum with their Goddess, communing and making plans. Strange among all creatures, the Taliel becomes intersexed when they accept the position—a hermaphrodite, equally capable of mating with either male or female, but usually choosing to have only one mate, and one that will not be shocked by the change, at that.
Seraphs – the Seraphs are the group second to the Taliel and usually consist of an entourage of two to five; they are, essentially, both the Taliel’s and Amora’s Voice. What they say must be obeyed, for they speak with the authority of their Goddess. Always blessed with wings, the Seraphs very often have the Divinity-born power of Chorus, and use it only to restore Nature and Life and to heal other Servants. Seraphs, considering Hellhounds traitors, look down upon them with disdain, and will likely ignore them so that they do not dirty themselves.
Lliso – the Lliso are the Servants’ elite rank of warriors, as the Yazha are of the Hellhouns. They train and battle day in and day out, leaving little time for socialization and love—though, fortunately, their dealings with the Hellhounds leave them so disgusted with the creatures that they are not likely to be subverted anytime soon. Occasionally a Lliso will find love, but it is usually amongst one of the other Lliso, as they have their own inner hierarchy and know that outsiders often cannot understand their dedication to fighting.
Suuna – the Suuna are the caretakers of the land and the ordinary creatures living upon it, and as such are usually decorated with vines, feathers, shiny stones and other such gifts from Nature and the creatures of the land. No matter who it is that falls before them, the Suuna will help, even if it is a Hellhound; that is why they were created—to aid.
Banya – Banya are the lowest rank of the Servants, only consisting of Hellhounds-turned-Servants—who are given various tasks, but no higher rank as their will has already shown to be breakable—and the pups of the Servants. Though beautiful, the Banya have only a small glimmer of Amora’s Holy Light to them, giving them the name Banya itself—meaning “soft glow” in the language of the Shimmerwood.
